Organisation

Strømme Foundation is a rights-based development NGO that works towards a vision of a world free from poverty. Our most important interventions in the fight against poverty are education, economic inclusion / job creation and a strong civil society.

Our Vision is a world free from poverty.

Our Mission is to eradicate poverty.

Our values are:

  • Dignity
  • Justice
  • Solidarity

We are a decentralised organisation. With regional and country offices in West Africa, East Africa and Asia consisting only of local employees, we work through local partners in 10 countries. We implement our programmes through local partner organisations.

Our Head Office is located in Kristiansand, Norway, and has a coordinating, capacity building and fundraising role. Around 35 staff work in Kristiansand, and a total of 150 staff work for Strømme Foundation worldwide.

Regional Directors, along with the Directors at the Head Office, constitute part of SF’s collective Leadership Team under the Secretary General.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the sound management of the Strømme Foundation.

The Advisory Board ensures that the Strømme Foundation's activities are conducted in accordance with jurisdiction and our Articles of Association.

Rights-Based Approach

Strømme Foundation employs a Rights-based approach in programming to ensure meaningful and systematic inclusion and empowerment of the most vulnerable. It takes the side of people who suffer injustice by acknowledging their equal worth and dignity.

We recognize the poor not as beneficiaries, but as active rights holders and establishes corresponding duties for duty bearers against whom the claims can be held. One of the ways in which we do this is by identifying and utilizing the potential and strengths of the community.

Partnership Model

Local ownership is key to ensuring lasting, sustainable development. Strømme Foundation does not implement directly in the field. Rather, the implementation of our programmes is carried out by local NGO partners.

We believe this model contributes to cost effectiveness, cultural sensitivity and to a development approach adapted to the context.

Our implementing partners are selected through a thorough due diligence process with clear selection criteria. Individual capacity building plans are made for the follow up of these partners.
